MSCA Yard Sale Tips and Info

Community Yard Sale

MSCA, Potomac Woods and Regency Estates have been holding a community wide yard sale annually for many years.  Typically it is held in late May, early June. Sale dates are on Saturday and Sunday.  See the News--Announcements Section of this website for dates

Homeowners set up a sale in front of your house or join ranks with a neighbor.  You can do one day or both.  Yard sale banners will go up the week of the sale and we will post to Craig’s List prior to the sale.  On the yard sale dates, Steve Shcuck puts up and takes down yard sale directional signs and puts maps at main entrances to the neighborhoods. 

    Tips For a Successful Yard Sale

• Prepare early, as collectors and antique dealers like to show up before the posted start time.
• Gather shopping bags, boxes, newspapers (to wrap fragile items)
• Gather items from all around your house/shed/garage. Sort items by type (clothing, toys, tools, etc.)
• The best selling items are:
  • Household items (curtains, rugs, bedspreads)
  • Jewelry
  • Tools
  • Baby Items
  • Clothing
  • Kitchen Appliances/utensils
  • Bric-a-brac of all kinds: If it collects dust, people buy it.
• Clean, repair, and test things that will be sold.
• Many say that pricing all of your items is the best way. Others make up prices as the day goes on.
• Collect money for your Pay table. Have plenty of change on hand, a calculator, pen and paper. 
• Have a power cord available to try electrical items
• Post “Pay Here” “Sorry, No Restrooms Available” and other signs as needed
