Information on Seven Lock Road Bikeway Study
This project provides for facility planning of a bikeway on both sides of Seven Locks from Montrose Road to Bradley Blvd. to provide for 2-way commuter bike traffic. The planned bikeway will also travel east on the south side of Montrose from Seven Locks to I-270, where it will tie in to the sidewalk on the bridge. Portions of the proposed bikeway may travel on the existing shoulder, or it may be shared use lanes where the curbed sections are wide enough. Towards the southern end of the project, there may be a need for a separate bikeway.
This project also provides for facility planning of the missing segments of sidewalk on both sides of Seven Locks Road from Montrose Road to Bradley Blvd.
The final item in the study is an analysis of the need for left turn, accel and decel lanes at Bells Mill Road, Muirfield Drive, and Grand Teton Drive.
Connectivity: The bikeway will connect to bike lanes on Democracy and Tuckerman. The portion along Montrose will tie into the Montrose Road West bikeway (currently in Final Design), which ultimately leads to the North Bethesda Trail. The sidewalk will provide the missing segments for access to 10 different religious structures (churches, mosques, and synagogues), 4 schools, and several clubs.
Impetus: Letters to the CE from several homeowners, articles in the Potomac Gazette (Aug. 27, 2003 and Nov. 5, 2003), request from Montgomery Square Citizens Assoc. and request from our own Division of Operations.
Sincerely,
